Harbour Industries and MIL-1-81490A(AS) Military Specification for Transmission Lines

The MIL-1-81490 specification covers the general requirements of "Transverse Electromagnetic Mode (TEM) transmission lines" or in other words complete cable assemblies capable of mechanically and electrically interconnecting two units of a system.

Harbour Industries has supplied high performance, high frequency coaxial cables for many years to assembly houses for use in airborne systems. Frequently these cables are used in assemblies manufactured in accordance with the MIL-T-81490 specification. Aerospace OEMs might not be familiar with the Harbour name because many times cables are private labeled with non-disclosure agreements in place.

Although Harbour manufactures low loss coax cables guaranteed up to frequencies as high as 40 GHz, for the MIL-I-81490 specification Harbour manufactures Class 1flexible coaxial cable, some designed for use in the 2.0 - 8.0 GHz frequency range (1ype 1) and other cables designed
for use in the 2.0 to 16.0 Chiz frequency range (Lype I). These high performance cables are manufactured to meet electrical performance requirements as defined in Paragraph 3.6.4 of the MIL-T-81490 specification relating to RF insertion loss, insertion loss uniformity andstability,
voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) and stability,impedance uniformity, velocity of propagation, RF leakage, and power handling capability.

Although many of the test procedures and requirements in the MIL-T-81490 specification pertain to cable assemblies, acceptable test results aren't possible without good performing cables as those provided by Harbour Industries. In addition, all of Harbour Industries' LL Low Loss
coaxial cables pass the Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) 25.853 specification, Airbus ABD0031 specification and Boeing's smoke and toxicity requirements.
