Harbour Industries Celebrating 50 years of Innovation

Harbours's line of DataMaster® Aerospace Data Cables was established after years of pushing the components and manufacturing techniques to new limits, then pushing further. Harbour's engineers created a closed cell fluoropolymer insulation available in DataMaster® Q100 quad cables.  These proprietary constructions are 10% lighter than comparable products — a significant weight reduction of 2.5 lbs. per 1,000 feet of cable.  This weight savings is critical when planning for in-flight entertainment, cabin management, military and commercial avionics systems.

The specialty insulation also cuts clean with no extraneous tailings, making the cables faster to install. "We joke that our engineers make cable go where no one has gone before," says General Manager Joe Hennessy. "Fortunately they have years of expertise, they understand the composite properties and they keep asking the question: How can we improve the product for our customers' applications?"

Other innovations include crush resistance, longer lengths and easier termination to reduce installation time. The products in the DataMaster® Aero line have these properties, as well as meeting or exceeding rigorous FAA standards for flame, smoke and toxicity. DataMaster® AeroFit cable provides Cat 5e performance with added benefits of greater bend ratio, extremely low weight and small overall diameter.  

Harbour has been the industry leader for aerospace applications selling more than 300 million linear feet of cable per year. "That's enough cable to circle the globe 228 times every year," says Hennessy. "The big names in commercial, military and VIP plane manufacturing are recognizing our difference and asking for Harbour products."
